Firstly very sorry that I have handed this up late..

DAY 1-4

Day 1

When I first reached Cambodia, I find the place very cooling. I was excited when i found out that the weather will be like that for the next few days too. Nothing much for the first day but something made an impact on my life, which is the farm orphanage. When I first saw them, I really felt that I am really lucky to have all the things around me. I was also shocked that they all stood outside to welcome all of us. The children there were all very friendly and all of us made friends with them. One person that I cannot forget is M, sorry if I had used a M for your name. He is the first person that came and make friends with me during the trip. After quite a long time of spending time together, it was our turn to do something for them, we gave out a few shirts and pants to all of them and I could see the happiness in thier faces. After that, it was time for us to leave, some of us cried but all of us were unwilling to leave the place. At last we left, some of the children there chase after our bus, especially M. Till this day on, i still cannot forget him and if there is a chance, I would like to see him again!

Day 2

After waking up from the comfortable bed we slept on, it was time for our breakfast. I hate the person who cooked my scramble egg. instead of not putting any capsicum, he added more to it, I had no choice but to eat it. After breakfast, we went to Krobei Real Primary School, it was a school which could be said as have completed school. When we reached there, the first thing we did was teaching them the basics of english, but it was then I knew that they have already known about it, so the teaching we did was actually useless. Next we gave out some clothings and other things to them, but I was shocked when Miss Sem just took out a ruler and around 50 students crowded around her and trying to snatch it. Next it was the cleaning out tables and chairs. We took quit awhile to clean all the tables and chairs and clearing the useless stuffs as it was too dirty. After that, it was the painting of walls. Its was the most tiring but most exciting thing that we did to help the school. After the second day of work, the paintings of the school were 70% done.

Day3

This day was the worst day ever during the trip. Almost all of us went ill. Down with fever and vomit, we are not able to finsih the job in school, I regretted it. But still we have no choice but to rest for almost the whole day, and something interesting happened at night. THE NIGHT MARKET was where we went at night. And with the help of our bargain King SHAIK and bargain Queen EUNICE, we bought lots of things.

Day4

This is the day I will never forget. Even though I dont feel very good that day, I was very delighted to get a chance to see Ang Kor Wat temple, once of the 7 wonders in the world. OMG it was truly Fascinating. First we went to the Bayon temple which have lots of faces carved on it. I was wondering how did the ''PROS'' did it, too unbelievable. Touring around just a temple was already quite tiring, next we went to the jungle temple. Huge trees covering some of parts of the temple. It was truly exciting. The biggest temple I had ever seen in the 15 years of my life was the Ang Kor Wat temple!! The ''Five Cap'' at the top of the temple made it very special and the inner carvings on the wall made it more interesting. There was even a big ''Bathtub'' inside the temple. After the tour we went to the Tonle Sap Lake. The biggest lake I have seen. Looking at people living on the floating houses and bathing in the dirty water, I really pity them. One thing that made me find it very interesting, is the floating basketball court. Later on we sat on the boat and we went to see the sunset. After the tiring day, we went for dinner. I didi not have any appetite, so I ate very little. During dinner, there were also people dancing their traditional dances on stage, after that back to the hotel.... ZZzz..

I will not talk about day 5 as there is nothing much and bad day for me too..

Thats all I have, thanks and byes :D

Day1-Day4

For The First Day:
The most memorable thing that happened on the first day was the things that happened in the farm orphanage. The children there were very friendly and so we made friends easily. Times with them were really fun and it is a joy to be able to bring joy to people who are less fortunate than you.

For The Second Day:
Most of the day were spent doing CIP such as cleaning the tables, building a toilet, picking up litter and painting the walls of the classrooms. Before that, we also taught the class the basics of ABC and 123, but they seem to know everything beforehand. My group's job was to paint the walls and so we painted walls, and maybe this would look good on the wall?
Even though it was pretty tiring and it made us sweat a lot, it is still quite fun when doing it. Even though it dirtied our shirt and pants, it was all worth it as we would be able to get back quite a number of smiles from the children studying there in return. =]

For The Third Day:
The plan for this day was actually to complete the painting that was not completed the day before, but due to some unforeseen circumstances, we were not able to. Some of us fell sick
that day and so the teachers gave us time to rest and to recuperate. As a result, the wall painting is only 70% completed. So i hope that the teachers will bring another batch of students to Cambodia to finish the unfinished job. Hopefully, they do not fall sick too. =]

For The Fourth Day:
Most of us were feeling much better after listening to the teachers' advice of drinking more water and eating food. So we went to visit The Bayon Temple first. Over there, we were able to hitch a ride from the elephants there. It was very fun as it was my first time siting on an elephant and we toured around The Bayon Temple. Then, we headed on to the Ankor Wat Temple, one of the 7 Wonders of the world. It is humongous and I am very amazed by the fact that the temple was built without using any machinery, but just bare hands. Lastly, we went to hitch a boat ride to tour around Ton Le Sap Lake. The boat ride was simple, but we got to see how people lived on the waters. We even got to see a very beautiful sunset...
Day one .

My first impression of Siem Reap within the airport is a city which is rich in agriculture.

Silk Worm Farm
It is an experience which one wwouldnt want to forget. We can also see how hard people work before getting the end result - which is the silk.

Krobei real primary school.

My first impression of the school is a place which is not properly built . I can imagine how the children suffer with the poor condition.

Landmine Museum .
The visit to this museum teaches me about cambodia history and how much effort they have to put in to help their country to be a safe cool.

Farm orphanage
I really feel touched and blessed with whatever i have in singapore .Although there many things which i could not get , I am still grateful with what I already have after looking at the children. It makes me feel more appreciative .

Shaik Jifridin Class 2e4

well, let's start from the first day,
my first impression of Siem Reap was that it looks like a nature reserve of some holiday resort we usually see in Singapore.=)
The moment i get on the bus, my eyes were constantly searching for food or little snacks as i was really starving then. =X
And here comes the food, with a extra carbonated coke from Cambodia. It just makes everyone bloated o.o

the silk worm farm was pretty interesting. I never really get to see the whole process of how my lovely silk blanket that i used to snatch from my mum was actually made. hehe! i don't really feel disgusted or creeped out by these little wormies. But, i kind of pity the worms. Like they existed for that piece of cloth people get for like $35USD ? that scarf people wrap around one's neck.

Ok so count yourself lucky that you're not a silk worm =)

my first impression of the primary school was that it looked pretty "back-wards"
well, like we've gone back to the past through a time-machine (which is the jet star plane)
hehe! to the past or future? choose jetstar.
Nah i'm just kidding.
moving on, the classrooms were pretty dusty.
i think i would be sneezing my day out if i were to study there.

The land mine museum was quite interesting but not much explainations provided.
i feel sorry for the children that were involved as i read their stories.=(

i farm orphanage got my attentions most that day.
as i said, i realised that their attitude is really worth complimenting. they were focus and sharp about what they exactly wanted to do. they were really a bunch of positive children
They are really well-mannered. and my new friend ( son) taught me to make a basket.
And in exchange, i gave her a singapore keychain , words written with correction fluid behind it.
i was pretty reluctant to leave and was one of the last that went up the bus.

Day2:
helping little cute kids thrilling and fun. i really enjoyed myself.
although i think  that the children at the orphan were more well-mannered than the children in the school.
they are still a fun batch, they were quite obedient i must compliment!

later that day, i have NEVER swept a floor this filthy in my 14 years of life.
a rat was even spotted o.o which freaked out some people.
painting was fun.
overall, i got myself down and dirty. But i enjoyed it. i had a hard time washing my dusty hair when i was back at the hotel.

Day3:
Almost everyone fell sick.
i was actually fine in the morning. i thought i was strong =X
but i fell sick after a morning nap after breakfast.
No fever though.
Cip was cancelled. i felt disappointed for not being able to complete where we left off.
well this was mainly wad happened to me.
i ate breakfast, i threw out breakfast.
i ate lunch, i threw out lunch.
i ate a pinch of dinner, nothing came out. =)
haha!
but throughout the visit to the old market, i was half-dead. horrible feelings back then.

Day 4:
It is truly incredible to be able to visit one of the 7 wonders of the world. =) which is angkor wat.
The experience of riding on the elephant was butt-aching =X but its thrilling and fun=) i want to go again!
i thought that the structures of the building were pretty creative and fascinating. if you carefully observe the details, they are amazing. imagine the time consumed to make such a fantasy place?
wow! =O the hiking was fun though.
i enjoyed it very much!

Day 5:
still drowsy due to the time i had to wake up.
i start to miss my experience i had in cambodia,
yet looking forward to see my friends and family.
ahhhhhhhh.... home at last! so comfy, with my air-con blowing at me =)
and my little soft toy on my lap.

hey all, we're lucky to have what we have now.
so appreciate it. And cherish it well!
and thank eunice for being there and everywhere for me especially when i'm sick x.x
And Ja sin for being a heHeHE roomate=D

God bless !
lea sen huay! (goodbye in cambodian)
More pictures will be uploaded=)

Reflections. :D

Hello, Muhd Syafiq here.
I'm so sad that 71.1% is done, but the rest aren't finished.
The kids at there have no money to buy food.
We sat on the elephant and i'd great fun talking to the elephant.
The sunset is very beautiful, i'd love to watch it again w/ my friends.
I think that's all.
Byebye.

Reflections. :D

Hello hello! :D
The things that i find very memorable in Cambodia is the farm orphanage and the time in Krobei Primary School.
I really find the children there very pitiful.
We ought to really cherish life.
How i wished we aren't sick on the third day.
My group only finish 70% of the toilet! :(
Totally hard work and i can see my group mates trying their best to serve the children the best.
Even Ms Jarina lend a helping hand in building it! :D
Thinking back, i can hardly believed myself doing my part in building the toilet, w/out really complaining dirty. :D HAHA.
Everyone was really feeling very sick on day 3, we stayed in the hotel and rest.
I'm so glad to have Jow Cer Lin as my roommate who tolerated me for 4 days! ^^
I'm also very happy to have Ang Chen Shan as my best buddy whom stick me when i need her for the 4 days in Cambodia! ^^

I'm so glad that we managed to go to Angkor Wat at the last day.
I can hardly believed myself riding an elephant in my 14 years of lifetime! :D HAHA.
The feeling was totally so great. :D
The Tongle Sap ride on the boat was fantastic!
The sunset was really nice, really very nice.
Okay, i think that's all.
And i know everyone wants to see my super-duper-cute-cutie-pie right? :D

TADA!~
(The cutest one is him. :D)

That's all folks!
Best regards,
Eunice Chew, 2N6'2009.
Peace out.

Reflections :)

Hello people,
Reflection Time
The things that happened in Cambodia that I feel that it is memorable...
Firstly, the thing that i feel very memorable to me is the visit to the Farm Orphanage. When we reached there, the children welcomed us with flowers. The children were very friendly and interactive. They were very eager to show us around the place. Next, we were entertained by the performances that they had put up for us. Some of them used instruments that i have never seen before. After that they taught us how to weave baskets using rattan. I had a hard time doing it but it was very fun :)... Before we left,we distributed the clothes that we had brought over from Singapore. Despite the fact that they are poor, they were very cheerful and happy. They were very appreciative of what we gave them and cherished whatever they have. I hope that i can go back there again. :D

Secondly, the thing that i feel very memorable to me is the CIP at Krobei Primary School. When we reached the primary school, each group was given a class to teach. Frankly speaking, it was hard to teach the kids as there was a language barrier. In the end, we taught the class from alphabet A to H and from numbers 1 to 20. After the 1hour lesson , we started to paint the classroom, pick up litters around the school and the building of the toilet. My group was assigned to paint the exterior of the classroom block. At first, it seems fun but as time past, we grew tired. The CIP next day was cancelled due to many people falling sick...I hope that we can go back and finish the mural painting. Overall, it was very tiring but fun. We also had the experience of being a teacher for a day... :]

Thirdly, the thing that i feel memorable is the visit to Angkor Wat.Before we went in to Angkor Wat, we had to have our pictures taken. The thing that i enjoyed most was the elephant ride. It was scary at first but i got used to it eventually...It was real fun :P This is also the first time that I am visiting Angkor Wat. I took a lot of pictures of the temples. After that we had a boat ride...It was very enjoyable and we had a chance to experience sunset without anything blocking our view. It is a very beautiful sight that i will remember...

Fourthly, the thing that i feel memorable is the shopping nights we had. Out of the 4 nights there, we were shopping for 3 nights :) All of us had lots of when bargaining and buying things but what the shops sell are similar to what other shops are selling...

Overall this trip is very fun and meaningful. I hope that i can go again next year :) Although we had activities cancelled for one day, i am sure that everyone had a fun time there :D Through this trip, I have learned that we Singapore kids are much more fortunate then them and we should treasure and cherish what we have now...
I MISS CAMBODIA....

Going off....
Bye...
Jasin :)

Overall reflection for cambodia trip

The trip was fun and memorable for me and I believe everyone too. We put our heart and soul in trying to give the students in Krobei primary school a condusive enviroment to study by helping them bulit toilet and paint their classrooms. We also went to teach them but their level of education is higher than what we expected. Many or should I say all of them know their basics of english and we were surprised. However, I think they are more the materialistic sort of children compared to the children in the farm orphanage. Anyway, everyone gave their best effort in helping them the childrens there even though the painting was only 70% completed.
FARM ORPHANAGE:
In the times I share at the orphanage, I find it the most memorable as it taught me lessons of life. The children over there welcome us with bright smiles and warm kindness as they performed to us their music and performing talents. They then taught us on playing their instruments. They were patients towards us and their hospitality were appreciated. Many of us were taught on how to weave baskets by them but I was skipping class and instead played with my buddies. I taught them words in eng while they taught me the words in khmer. Having personal interaction with them, I can say that this bunch of orphans are brave and can be our role models in showing us no matter how difficult is life, there is always a gimmer of hope. I believe if I ever feel like giving up, as long as I remember how the orphans survived, I will continue to strive on and be more determine to succeed.
SHOPPING:
Shopping in cambodia is etched in my mind as it recalled many of us slashing prices of shirts, keychain, puppets and others stuff to nearly half of the original price. It was shocking to know that some of us who was quiet among the us have such a talent in bargaining price. I believe everyone was shopping to their hearts' content as many of us were carrying bags of plastic bags in our arms and have excess luggages. :P (I must confess that I also bought some things)
ANGKOR WAT:
Angkor Wat really deserve the title of one of the seven wonders of the world. Only those who been there can understand why. The temples, although are ancient and there are some ruins, the temples still stand tall and magnicient. Although the process of climbing the stairs to the peak is tough(the stairs is uneven), but all of us manage to reach to the top and it was really worth it. Jonathan and I instead of walking the normal stairs, steps on the ruins course we lazy to wait for turn by turn to go down. In the end, it was worth the effort to see the temples.
In all, the trip was a great experience for me to see the outside world and get out of the comfort zone. It help me understand life bitter, sweet, sour and spice. It is truly a memorable memories that will etched in my mind forever. (Many of us was sick and vomitting, thus cant complete the painting)
Adrian

HELLOS :D

Although we are all back in Singapore, I am sure that all of us still remember the days we had at Cambodia. The fun, joy, laughter and the unpleasant day that we went through when we were sick...In addition, I am also sure that each and every one of us have our own memorable memories of Cambodia. Be it the Farm Orphanage, the Primary School, the Land Mine Museum, Angkor Wat, Tonle Sap Lake or even the Night Market which I am very sure that all of us enjoyed bargaining with the stall owners. ((: The Amok Fish Soup may also be an unforgetful memory too.

The trip to the Farm Orphanage had left some unforgetable memories for us. Tears had even rolled down some of our faces when we left the orphanage, and tears may be still flowing out when we think back to the very day when we visited the orphans. I can still remember their living environment and conditions very clearly, their selfless and friendly personalities, their helpfulness and their maturity. They would not fight among themselves and would care for each other. This is the kind of attitude that would be rarely seen in Singapore. Even when we gave out clothings to them, they would be waiting very patiently for their turns and would even help their friends to take the clothings and share them among themselves. I dare to say that all of us are touched to see their selfless attitude and graciousness. They taught some of us to dance and even taught us to weave a basket patiently. Till now, I still misses them and hope to be able to see them again. ((:

At the school, we held an hour english class for the children. Each of the group take a class and we used our educational package which each of the group had prepared to teach them. For my class, they already know their ABC and we revised it with them. We even played memory game with them using our print-out cards and we let them kept it afterwards. We sang songs with them and gave out stationaries to each of them. They were smiling when they received our gifts to them. I felt happy to see their smiles. :D Afterwards, we started to work on the two classrooms allocated to us. We moved the tables and chairs out the class and swept the floor. Afterwhich, I learned to plaster cement , and began to cement the holes in the floor. While I was busy plastering the floor, the rest went to build toilets and began to paint the interior and exterior of the two classrooms. We had completed about 70% of the work before we fell sick and couldn't continue our work. D: Although it was tough, all of us had fun and felt that it was worth to do this CIP works when we see the bright smiles on the children's faces. :D

The first word that came into my mind was "BIG" when I saw Angkor Wat for the very first time. We had elephant rides and it was fun although some of us were scared of heights. ((: We went to the temples and had fun taking photos of each other and ourselves. Some even "kissed" the buddha. :D At Tonle Sap Lake, we rode the boat and I saw alots of houses, a church, a basketball court, all floating on the river. It was interesting as it was the first time I saw a floating village. :D In the middle of a trip, our boat was "hijacked" by a young woman selling can drinks. We were shocked to see her jump up to our moving boat and were all worried about her safety. After awhile, her boat came, and she jumped back to her boat. Finally, we reached a part of the lake where we can had a clear and wide view of the sunset. It was another memorable thing that I can still remember. The sunset that we had seen in Cambodia at Tonle Sap Lake could not be seen in Singapore.

Night Market was where each and every one of us impressed each other with our singaporeans' bargaining skills and spirits! ((: All of us had fun bargaining and purchasing our items for our ownselves, friends, and our family members. Sad to say, this was also the place where all of us became "bankrupt". D:

In conclusion, the trip to Cambodia, Siem Reap was a memorable one and it was an unforgetful experience for all of us. Although our day 3 activities had to be cancelled, we had learnt a meaningful lessons from it, " always take good care of ourselves and be healthy" ! I would like to thank our Teachers, MS NEO, MDM ZURINA, MS SEM, MS JARINA, MR GAVIN, and MR ARUN for giving us the chance to experience Cambodia.

THANKS ALOT TEACHERS!
and everyone of you out there who went together for this trip ((:
Ok, I will end the whole post here. Bye! :D
Faye((:

HiHi ^^

hello everyone!! i still feel so sick now.. okay let skip it

FIRST DAY:
Felt very excited when we reach Siem Reap. People are very friendly over there. We headed to the silk worm farm after that, I saw most of the local people drive motorcycle. Next, we went to the primary school to know how it look like. Then we went to land mine museum, land mine really kill a lot people during and after war times. After that, we headed to farm orphanage. We never expect that everyone stood outside the orphanage to welcome us. Next they perform some local dance for us and I learn how to dance monkey dance. Next, some of the them teach me how to write and pronounce dog and cat in their language. I also teach them some english words. In the end of the day, we exchange email address. I really do miss them

SECOND DAY:
We woke up quite early and headed to the primary school. When we reached there, many pairs of eyes are looking at us, it feel so weird. We contact one hour english lesson to one of the classes. Soon after that, we called every students out and give out clothes to the poor family. In the night, we headed to the night market. Many people start to bargain for the price, very funny.

THIRD DAY:
On the third day, more the 50% of us fall sick, thus teacher decide to let us rest until lunch time. Again in the night, we headed to night market for some shopping. Other than that, we also headed to a restaurant to have our dinner. We can watch people dancing when we are eating. The dance is beautiful, and Alex goes up to the stage to take photo with the dancers.

FORTH DAY:
Many of us recovered and teachers decide we should continue our journey. We went to visit Angkor. I felt very amazing that those building can be build by using rock only, not even with nail or clement. On the way there, I sat on an elephant. The feeling is so great because this is my first time to sit on an elephant. When we reached there, we took many photos which included those that "kissed" the budda. Next we ride a boat to see the sunset. It is so beautiful, however it cannot be seem in Singapore as there are too many buildings. Alex get a chance to take over and ride the boat. Everyone cheered for him. Again in the night, we headed to night market to do some shopping.

FIFTH DAY:
On the fifth day, we woke up very early. Headed to airport and flight back to Singapore. When we reached there, mdm zurina say something that is very nice and meaningful to me. In the farm orphanage, a child that had to stay there because she is the 9th or 10th child of that family. The family has no money to afford them thus throw the child in the orphanage. However in Singapore, we are not 9th or 10th. We are 1st or 2nd in our parent's hearts. That why we need to be nice in Singapore and treat our parent well

Hellos!

I really missed the children in both the Farm Orphanage & the Krobei Primary School. They have really left a huge impression on me! I've also know how fortunate I am. I am always complaining about things & i didnt know that there are much less fortunate people around me. I've also learnt to treasure the people around me.

The most impactful item was the Farm Orphanage. I shall not elaborate on this post as I've said about the Farm Orphanage in the previous post that i've uploaded together with my group's post.

Following by the Farm Orphanage was the CIP we did @ Krobei Primary School. We picked up litter around the school, clean the tables & also painted the classrooms. It was really a tough job to me as it was the first time I did all these things. Even though we only did 70% of our task, it was rather a memorable experience.

OKAYS i got to go BYE!!!

:D

Hi Everyone!

In my opinion, the most impactful and memorable trip was to the Farm Orphanage!
When we arrived, the children welcomed us by standing at the gate, with flowers on their hands and smiling cheerfully to us. I was touched as they were all very well-mannered kids despite their unfortunate family background. First, they performed some dances and musics to us. Next, they taught us how to dance, play musical instruments and weave baskets. It was a total different experience for many of us there! Although I did not managed to finish weaving the basket, but I enjoyed the process and find it very meaningful. Before we leave, we distributed some clothes to them. They were all very happy to receive it despite they were old clothes. Compared to the children in S'pore, children in S'pore may not even look at the old clothings twice! I feel that this is what we should learnt from them! When it was time to go, I cried because I cannot bear them! Although our time together was short, but I'm sure everyone of us treasure it very much! I will treasure this new friendship and I hope to visit them next year! =)

HELLO!:D
I'm back here posting again after my long long sleep.X:Hope you guys have enough rest too(:

OK,so let me just share some impactful experiences during the trip.Firstly, the Farm Orphanage!:D See the small cute cute boy up there?Yes,thats my buddy!(very cute right?hahaha,so random!)The orphanage impacted me most during the first day because I finally know that I am really very fortunate. The orphans there are really humble and they are extremely friendly. They show happiness even when they received second hand clothes. They are contented with what they have, unlike many singapore kids nowadays.(:

Next, another event that impact me was the CIP @ krobei primary.Yes,building toilet can be a tiring job, but when i looked at the students(who were curiously looking at us),its seems that everything we did does pay off.Their smiles on their faces seems to be thanking us for helping them. Thus, building toilet isnt that bad afterall(:

Lastly, the elephant ride was another event that impacted me. It was indeed a fun ride even though i was quite nervous at first! It was also a great for us(Mr Arun,CerLin and i) to interact and get to know each other better. We were also able to have a clear view of the Angkorwat with the accompany of the windy weather(:

ok,thats the end!:D byes,

Hello people we are from Group Banana-Balls and I am the group leader Weiling. These are my members Samuel, Ivan, Wan Ting Eugene and Zong Xuan.

The most impactful thing that impacted me was when we were at the farm orphanage, when we gave the kids some clothings , they were very happy to receive them and they kept on thanking us .this impacted me as I could see a smile on their faces and they were so happy to receive clothings even though they were not new ones. Samuel

The most impactful thing that deeply impacted me was when we went to the farm orphanage. The kids there even being orphans, were very friendly even to us, foreign people. We made friends with them and they taught us their local dace and how to weave a basket. At the end of the day when we were going home, I felt reluctant to get back to the hotel as I wanted to spend more time with them… I’ll just hope that there will be a trip like this again next time. Ivan

The most impactful thing that had happened was the visit to the farm orphanage. Compared to Singapore, Cambodia’s orphanage was a totally different kind of experience. Singapore’s orphanage provides good & proper beds whereas for the orphanage in Cambodia, they had quite a lot of kids staying under one shelter with no beds. The children taught us how to make a basket with our own bare hands. We made friends there too. They taught us how to create music with their locals instruments & dance. We distributed clothes to them.
What we did at the orphanage
-was welcomed by the kids
-performed for us
-taught us how to dance, play instruments & making a basket.
-distributed clothes
-time to say goodbye.
To conclude, all of us already had strong friendship with them & was very reluctant to be parted with them. Tears rolled down some of our cheeks. I have also known how fortunate we are compared to them.
~WanTing~

The most important thing that impacted me is when I was in Krobei Primary School. Yesterday when we reach the school, I find that the school was quite small and empty as the children have to study from Monday to Saturday. When we reach the school today, we saw the kids and I felt that there wasn’t enough space for so many of them to study in such a small school.
We went to teach the children some basic numbers and alphabets and even teach them some songs like twinkle twinkle little star. They were very happy when they receive the stationary, they were too excited and started snatching for the stationary. I was shocked and worried as I was afraid that it would lead out into fights. Even though there was quite a chaos but I felt the innocence in them. Quek

We went to a local restaurant which served local Cambodia food. The starter dish was fish soup. It tasted weird and usual. I took a few sips of the barbaric item and immediately I felt a short sharp pain in my stomach which signaled me that something wrong was happening in my body system. After a few minutes, immediately I vomited and all the fluid from my body. I saw rice all over my body. Never the less I vomited again several times after that. In the end, a doctor was brought in. I learned that we must stay strong in all situations. Regardless of anything perservance is important. Eugene

Throughout the two day, the most memorable place I went to was the orphanage. The people in the orphanage were really pitiful, and despite of them being pitiful they still come out with a very wonderful performance for us to enjoy. I had made friends there and they are very friendly. We painted the classrooms there, and the weather is terrible. That’s why almost all of us fall sick on the third day. –ZongXuan

GROUP E (ENT) DAY 4 EXPERIENCE IN SIEM REAP.

GROUP E (ENT):
Muhamad Syafiq:
Mt Experienceb in Angkor Wat temple. The temple is so big, bigger than the Singapore stadium. The temple have alot of things to see. It was build in 1131-1150BCE. It was fun when we reach there. The first thing that pop to my mind is how big is Angkor Wat temple. It is the 7 wonders in the world . The tonle sap lake that I went today, we take a ride on a boat and after that we explore the place. While we were on the boat, another boat came to us to hijack our boat. A girl that selling water. After that the boat trip we went to eat dinner. It was great.
Kai Jie:
I feel very amazing as I noticed that those building had been build by rock only, not even with a nail or clement. I had ride on an elephant there, this is my first time that i ride an elephant there, i feel so excited and happy. I took alot of photos there.
We visit alot of those places and each place give me different kind of feelings. Some of us still have a chance to "kiss" the budda. Next, we ride boat to see the sunset, it look very nice and special. Soon, we headed back to the land for our dinner. Alex took over to ride the boat for awhile. Everyone cleered for him. when we readed to the restuarant, the Indian food is so spicy. We hardly manage to finish it,
Finally, it the period of time that everyone will feel very happy - shopping time. We go to the night market. Alot of people spent most of their money today as today is the last day. I hope that everyone able to go back to Singapore by tomorrow.
Eunice Chew:
I was totally amazed by the wonderful history & experience I've had. I can't believe myself taking an elephant ride! :D For the first time in my life, I saw an elephant shit! :D HAHA! Me & my best partner, Ang Chen Shan had so much fun & we took a lot of unforgettable photos. ;D
We knew a lot more about Angkorwat, the seven wonders of the world that is bulit from 1131-1150. I really appreciate to have such a nice tour gride & his wonderful translation of the history. We also took a boat around tonlesap & there's a really very beauitful sunset. I can't believe people were staying there! They're either staying/playing there, or selling stuffs. There's a young lady which totally amazed me! She jumped onto our boat & started selling us drinks. I really love this trip a alot! ^^
MingTong:
I feel that the Angkor is really a place where people should go. It tell us about the background of cambodia and this allows people to understand the country better.
i was kind of afraid during the trip as i have a phobia of water. However i overcome by talking to my friends and looking at another scendries . It was a real fun experience as i have not been travelling with friends as i have not been travelling with friends since p6 camp
talking about it , i feel abit guilty for bargaining with the shopkeeper. However, the shopkeeper was nice enough to lower the price for us and we able to able to have a greater deal.

last day before we leave the kingdom of cambodia

Dearest SK colleagues and students,
the last 24 hours in Siem Reap was really wonderful:). Angkor Wat, Tak Phrom and Bayon Temple were the most awesome and magnificent places that I've seen for the past 28 years (now u know my real age). The view was breathtaking and all of us were busy snapping pictures away. Love the ancient feel of the temples and it really brought me back to the movie " Tomb Raider".

Tonle Sap lake was the other highlight of the day where we cruised through it with 30+ safety jackets (NOBODY ELSE cruising was wearing it!!!! arghh) on us. Markets, houses, basketball courts, church were found on the floating platforms and i really wonder how the people survive in these kind of conditions!!! The most interesting thing was that a speed boat came so close to us and a little girl actually lept over to our boat to sell us ice cold drinks! Hearts the sunset that we saw in Tonle Sap Lake too!!!!

Last but not the least, we demonstrated the singaporean shopping spirit by bargaining out hearts out in the market. Cheers to Shaik, Eunice Chew and Ms Jarina for making our shopping trip a memorable one!!

I wanna be back in cambodia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

love,
Ms Sem

The journey was quite bumpy but we still ENJOY it! WE SAW THE ELEPHANT SHITTING AND URINATING AT THE SAME TIME!!! (OMG) It was an unforgettable experience... After that, we visited the temple of the Buddhists and Hindus religion and we took a lot of group photos... After that, we had lunch at a local restaurant... After lunch, we visited Ang Kor Wat and Tonle Sap Lake. We took the boat around the water village and during the ride, there were some villagers who jumped on our boat trying to sell can drinks... After which, we witnessed sunset and IT WAS BEAUTIFUL!!! A lot of us took pictures of the sunset. On our way back, Alex even drove the boat. WOW!!!!!!!!! NICE RIDE WE HAVE WITH ALEX DRIVING THE BOAT!!!! COOL!!!!!!!!! After dinner, everyone shopped their hearts out at the night market. After all the 4 days in Cambodia, all of us have suffered hardship, endured pain and sickness (except Alex) but we all had lots of fun. We had a unforgettable experience during this this trip.

Alpha ; Day 2 in Cambodia

Day 2 and we never get tired of travelling. Some places are bumpy and some are are very filthy,But,nevertheless, we are here to help them, yeah, CIP.

First of all, we went to the school

Khatir,Nelly:

We planned all the games and educational package just for them.We planned but were somewhat prepared to teach. The students were enthusiastic towards learning. They loved to volunteer theselves (not because of candy =P) as they wanted to learn. We planned our planned games such as Aim Bottle Carefully, ALPHAbets and numbers. They coloured and they pasted on the wall. Then, we helped to brighten their school by cleaning and make-over the school and it was awesome! Especially building the toilets! But then, it took us almost the whole afternoon to complete 2 rooms and exterior walls and adding cement. We felt proud after seeing the work we all did. When we leave for our lunch, we continued and the make-over was HALF-done by then.Sadly, we cant continue today as 85 % of students were not feeling well. Some were feeling nauseous and did throw-up in the end.Highest temperature is 38.2 degress celcius. sKIP THIS STORY, now we go the Night Market XD

Night Market : Cer Lin, Alex, Darius

The night market was a fun and enjoyable experience. However, the prices were very expensive. There were many shops selling different clothes, bags, scarfs and other things. The items on sale were really nice.If the prices of the items were lesser,we would buy them

Day 1 with the Alpha team

Suesdei!

This is group Alpha, with members; Khatir, Nelly, Cer Lin,Alex and Darius. Each of us will write a reflection that had impacted us the most during the trip for the current past 2 days.

Khatir Shahidi,Nelly,Cer lin,Alex and Darius;
Cambodia is wonderful; it is a really down-to-earth place that I would love to stay in.
The place that affected me and my SOUL the most is at Krobei Primary School.
I love to see students being educated as they would know what their goal in their life is.
They are at their first step of learning ‘Awnglay’ which means English.
I am also learning Cambodia.
Education is important and it really taught me that life depends on Education.
Suffer now, enjoy later. So we have to fight hard and take risk, so that our life maybe easier in the future.

Next is the farm orphanage. It’s something that deeply affected us. When we first alight the bus, the students were already standing there welcomming us. The students are very compassionate. They’ve showed their talents of playing musical instruments, dancing and weaving baskets. They farm too... We gave them some donations donated by our school. We believed that their touched by our actions

REFUSING TO TAKE A RISKLife means risk. People who sabotage themselves shouldn’t worry about failure as much as they should be concerned about the chances they miss when they don’t even try. “Too many people are having what might be called a “near-life experiences”. They go through life bunting, so afraid of failure what they never try to win the big prizes, never knowing the thrill of hitting a home run or even taking a swing at one.” Good bye.

‘It’s all in the mind’ – Mdm Zurina

WE MISS SINGAPORE!!!

GROUP E (ENT) DAY 1 & DAY 2 EXPERIENCE IN SIEM REAP.

GROUP E (ENT):
Day 1-

My first impression of Siem Reap (within the Airport)
I was quite shock when I reached the airport as there’s totally no airport at all, just the planes run way. There aren’t any planes in sight!

My second impression of Siem Reap (within Siem Reap City)
The place is not hot that peaceful and we can see many things which can’t be experience in Singapore. It is quite difficult for us to adapt at first.
Silk worm farm
The farm is really quite smelly as all the silk worm stays there till they die. They make every silk worth it to be costly and its really very silky. Although the shop sells the silk very expensive, but it is worth to buy. ^^
The primary school (my first impression)
The primary school really requires many improvements like the colour of the classroom and how the tables and chairs should be arranged to ensure maximum efficiency.
The land mine museum
After what had happened in the World War 2, nearly one million of Cambodians lives had been loss. I think that the world should be a peaceful place, without waar and people won't be suffering.
The farm orphanage
The farm orphanage is somwehere which i find it very warming and loving. The orphans there are really very pitiful and innocent. Although i may know some girls at the age of mine, their education wasn't really great. They could only speak and write basic language of English. Seeing them in this type of living conditions yet very happy, I'm so blessed to be so fortunate to live in Singapore and i ought to be happier than any of the orphans.

DAY 2-

CIP @ Krobei: My thoughts and feelings
When I first visit the school, I feel so weird as so many pairs of young eyes looking of us. However, this feelings only stay for while. We are appointed to one class for one hour to teach English for the student over there. At first it is hard for us to lead them as we are lack of the teaching materials however we are able to teach them smoothly in the end. I can feel that they were happy. After that, we move out to the open land to give out clothes. The situation was chaotic. After that we split into groups and we were chosen to build the toilet. We had to carry 50kg cement and 6 pails of soil to be able to make perfect cement.

Visit to the old market
I find that the market is a very good place for tourists to go. I can buy cheap stuffs with the help of EUNICE CHEW. :D There's a lot of stuffs to buy and bargain. ^^ The people there are totally friendly when we visited their shop. (:

cambodia experience so far..

Diarrheoa, vomitting, fever made our experience memorable last night.. I guess this was part and parcel of going to a country where we can't get used to the food and weather. Anyway, not to worry, everyone is more or less fine now. Albeit only finishing 70% of the painting works( the art work is still not done yet :[ ), we felt a sense of achievement for doing what we can to contribute to KROBEI Primary school. The student leaders had a challenging time trying to teach the primary school kids as most of them were quite reserved when facing the crowd. Ha, i guess this will teach them how dificult it is for their own teachers to prepare teaching resources and having to handle 40 of them back in Singapore. heh. But i would like to applaud one person, Faye Lai (from NPCC, 3E4) for having a lot of enthusiasm and trying her best in engaging all the kids.

The afternoon session was relatively more physical as SKYouths have to lay cement and bricks to build the toilet cubicle. Most of them were engaged in painting works for one of the buildings and 3 classrooms. Well done to all the leaders who work their guts out to ensure that the children have a better environment to study in! It was indeed a satisfying CIP for all of us:).

Pictures will be up soon..the network here is too laggy! Ciao!

Group Dynamic Donkey :D --Daily Reflection Day 1.

Faye:
I was shocked and surprised to see their living conditions and environment. I had never expected them to be cheerful and selfless despite living in a harsh environment. They would take good care of each other and they are very helpful. They are willing to help us and answer our every questions. The children also have a positive mindset that enable them to be happy and cheerful even when facing difficulties and challenges in their lives. Although the children did not have or have little educations, we were able to learn how to cherish and treasure things and people around us from them. Surprisingly, I felt so attached to the children and especially the cute little girl who at first, despite being wary and scared of me, finally warmed up to me and gave me lots of lovely and wonderful flowers. My FAVOURITE part of this trip was when we distributed the donated clothing to them. Some didn’t even have shoes. They did not fight over the clothing, but, instead, they shared among themselves. This moved me so much that I cried when I saw their graciousness. When it was time to live, the children hugged me and gave me a bracelet they had made and gave me a hug each. I couldn’t bear to go when they hugged me. On the bus journey back to the hotel, I was there crying with a few of my friends, feeling extremely lucky to have a good living environment. We should cherish and treasure all the things and people around us before we lose them and regret it. I hoped that we can do more for the children and that I will be able to go for other trips as meaningful as this. :D

Shaik:
The CIP at the Krobei Real Primary School is an experience which I would never forget for the rest of my life. It had helped me to build up my confidence while teaching them and also give me an opportunity to meet people with all walks of life. I am touched by the fact that these children actually sing along and pay their maximum attention to us when they barely met minutes ago. The donations which I had donated to them had really made me feel proud that at least I had made a difference in their life. They were rushing to get our unwanted clothes. These just shows that I need to be more grateful to whatever I have more and learn to appreciate life better. Reflecting back, I felt very fortunate to study in SKSS as these children are studying in a school of the harshest conditions but still not missing out in terms of education.

Craig:
I found out that Cambodia still has lots of mines that could not be found. And I pity the people who were killed by the mines. Mines were placed by the Khmer rouges while they were in war.

Chen Shan:
The first question that came into my mind was the children’s attitude towards their lives. Are they happy or miserable?
The moment I stepped down the bus, they welcomed us with their bright and warm smile. After they have performed, I realized that their attitude is worth complimenting. They are focus and sharp about what they wanted to do.i was really impressed! =) I found them quite a bunch of really positive children and always willing to share despite their harsh circumstances. It makes me reflect back on what if I were in their shoes, will I be as positive and well-mannered as them? I then realized that we’re all really fortunate, but we just take things for granted. I must learn how to appreciate all the things. I felt so blissful on how just thinking about everything I have. Finally I gave my new friend(son) a hug and gave her a keychain written with correction fluid, with her full name and my initials on it. =D And she helped me finish a basket and filled with many beautiful flowers in it. I was really reluctant to go and was on of the last to leave.
Thank god for everything you’ve let me experience! =)

Sheng hui:
When I first step in the school, I saw many small kids was walking and running around. After I finish teaching and interact, I feel that they are very friendly and cute. When I was moving their table out of the classroom for painting, they was very helpful and willing to help us to moved the table. And this is the first time I feel very happy when doing the hard work.

FORKERS EXPERIENCE FOR DAY 2

CIP @ Krobei: My thoughts and feelings
It was a tiring but enjoyable day. There were many tasks to complete and we were very co-operative. Our group’s educational package was fun and all the students participated actively in the activities. We taught them the alphabets and numbers. We also taught them simple words and the students were clever enough to spell them correctly. We taught them songs and games like ‘Twinkle Twinkle Little Star’, hokey pokey and ‘Simon says’. It was interesting interacting with the students. To improve the school’s facilities, we (Group F) helped out in the painting of classroom walls, removing the tables, sweeping the floor and distributing the donations. It was pleasant to see smiles blooming on the children’s faces. Through this, we felt the importance of making a difference in a person’s life.
Visit to the Night Market
The night market was still alive with shop owners willing to sell their products. The lighting was very colorful and there were many foreign visitors there. When we want to buy things, we find that it was quite tedious to bargain with the shop owners. However, as leaders, we should be persistent and convincing. We also realized that when we go and bargain as a group, we tend to get the products at a cheaper price. Overall, it was a new experience as we cannot see this kind of hustle and bustle in common night markets in Singapore.

FORKERS' EXPERIENCE IN DAY ONE

Day 1
My first impression of siem reap(within the airport)
The airport was clean and tidy. Officers were focused with their duty. As we see them, I think leaders should take their assigned duties with full concentration.
My Second Impression of siem reap (within siem reap city)
There were many paddy fields there. When we think of them, I recall the hard work, dedication, care and concern that the farmers would have produced to have a good yield. So, we think these are the qualities that a good leader should have.
Silk worm farm
In this farm, this is our first time having a nervous encounter with many worms. In the farm, we learnt about the processes of making rough silk and fine silk, and how the workers weave them into beautiful scarf. To us, worms were things that had negative thoughts in our minds. However, to think that the worms are grown for a purpose (to produce silk), we believe leaders should have the end in mind.
The Primary School (My first impression)
The primary school was very quiet because it was Sunday! The place was very sandy and dirty at the same time.
The land mine museum
We could not believe that war was very dangerous in the past. The landmine bombs were huge. Even though some were small, they were able to cause great destruction. In the museum, we also learnt about the methods taken to detect and diffuse landmines. Through this, we learnt that a leader should take risks and be brave.
The farm orphanage
The children were friendly. It was easy to interact with them. They were helpful when it comes to us learning how to dance, play instruments and weave basket. We took the initiative to learn dance and basket weaving. We made many mistake but we knew that at the end of the day we would have learnt new skills. The kids keep asking us if we could be their friend or to be their sibling. When we heard them, we realized the importance of family. We also learnt to empathize and be gracious.

Day 1 in Cambodia!

Hello everyone
This is Gavin, bloggin on behalf of everyone here in Siem Riep. If there r any spelling errors, blame the keyboard, it feels like its made of stone.
No pictures to share for now, coz we juz came back to the hotel, the students and teachers have gone back to their rooms to wash up and rest. me? i cant live without a computer. so here i am, using the hotel's computer, all sweaty and sticky.
Our 1st day is/was quite eventful.. We met up at T1 at 3am. Thanks to Mr Mannan , Mr Zul, and Mdm Rabia who came to see us off. However, poor Edward was sent back, coz he didnt fulfil his passport criteria of a minimum of 6 months validity. so we had to leave w/o him. everyone felt quite down becoz of tat, but we had to adapt to this change quickly. Edward had the presence of mind to pass us the materials to be used for CIP b4 he left. and we are really grateful! and its his birthday 2dae. Hapy Birthday to u Edward.

The flight was quite uneventful, coz most of us zzzzzzzzzzzz. took off at 6.10am. after arriving at the airport in Siem Riep, their customs stopped us coz of our 20 boxes of packed gifts for the children here.. pack of corrupted wolves. they stopped me, and asked to check my camera haversack and big bag. And they told me i had to declare my cameras ( he actually asked me how much my cameras and lenses cost) , my carbon fibre tripod, my netbook.. etc etc.. i think they want me to pay duty or taxes after i declare. i took the declaration frm them and sid the 1st clause states that personal effects do not need to be declared. so they were dumbstruck, and had to let me go, soon after, the 20 boxes were let off, withut any questions. for awhile, i forgot i'm not in Singapore...
we went straight to the silk farm from the airport. saw the cacoons, the silkworms, women weaving, dyeing the silk etc. eventually, no one bought any silk products except JARINA and ZURINA. went to check out the sch in which we r gng to perform the CIP.
checked in at the hotel, had lunch then left for the landmine museum. and our last stop was the orphanage. i wont comment too much abut this, coz i know our students have alot to share about their experience there. n the beginning, all of us were entertained by them putting up various performances for us. But reality for me finally kicked in, i juz keep wondering if theres really a future for these orphans. trust me, alot of things , emotions were felt/experienced during the time we were there. will let students tell us more. we had some students who cried when we were leving, some wanted to delay our departure. we left for dinner after tt, and we r now back to the hotel.
2moro will be the CIP Day 1 in the sch. students will wake up at 5.30am. i'll sign off now, hopefully, i can uplod some pictures and post the students'reflections soon! ciao!

the student leaders, teachers from cambodia, signing off for the night!~

Anti-Malaria Tablets

I want to thank Ming Tong(the yound lady who wears a ponytail) and her mum, who collected our Anti-Malaria Tablets for us. It saved us a trip to the hospital which requires 2 hours travel. Thank you!
I'm worried some of us will forget to take these tablets daily.Let's help one another and remind each other from time to time.
